Welcome. As a small animal massage therapist I will be integrating with other innovative animal touch therapies such as Reiki, Aromatherapy, Crystal Essences and the Raindrop Technique with essential oils. My goal is to help reach a natural healthy state by adapting to any physical limitations or injuries, to enhance quality of life and performance of your pet companion. These techniques are used in a gentle relaxing environment to empower your animal with calmness, comfort and confidence.
Thank you for taking the time to check out 'Animal Wellness Connection'. My name is Lorna Boydston. I am a lifetime resident of the Northwest. I was raised on a farm in Colbert, Washington (near Spokane). My parents raised German Shepherds, American Eskimos, Norwegian Elkhounds, Great Danes, and Schipperkees. My family also trained dogs for several police forces in the US.
During my years of growing up I was very involved in 4-H. My projects included Dogs, Horses, Cattle, and Veterinary Medicine. I was also a Junior Leader. I was awarded a trip for my efforts to the 4H Congress in Chicago in 1973. There I got to meet the Director of Purina and shake paws with TV Star Lassie and was awarded a college scholarship.
I graduated in 1977 from Ft. Steilacoom College (now Pierce College in Tacoma) as a Veterinary Technician. I majored in exotic animals and and animal dentistry. I interned at the University of Washington. Since that time I have worked for the Primate Field Station in Medical Lake, owned a pet store with many birds, reptiles and aquariums. I also was a vet tech at several veterinary clinics.
From a very young age, I have handled dogs around the US. I have breed and showed Great Danes for 26 years and currently beagles for 16 years. In my breeding program I follow the breeders code of ethics and instill the need to produce dogs that are sound in mind and body. I spend alot of time socializing dogs from birth to become better companions.
Recently, I felt the need to broaden my skills. I had been reading about other therapeutic modalities that can improve the lives of pets and became interested in animal massage. I have recently graduated from the Northwest School of Animal Massage. I am certified in small animal massage in general maintenance massage, performance and rehabilitation massage. I am certified as a Reiki Master from the same school. I have also completed courses in Raindrop Technique with essential oils. Recently I completed and updated certification in Pet First Aid from the American Red Cross. In the next few years I plan on being certified in Hydrotherapy for Animals, Animal Nutrition and Fitness, T-Touch and in Animal Acupressure. I am also a certified dog groomer.
I currently live in the Deer Park area (also near Spokane) with my loving husband, Sam. He is a Structural Engineer. I feel grateful that we both have been blessed to be able work at home and spend more time with each other. Together we have 4 adult children and 6 grandchildren. Besides raising and showing beagles, we have 2 horses. I also enjoy creating artwork depicting the beauty of animals through pastels, airbrush and sandblasting. I am member of Spokane Kennel Club and The Beagle Club of Eastern Washington. I have been an officer of both clubs and served on many committees. I was the Chairman of "Responsible Dog Ownership Day" in 2007, and have been the Legislative Liaison for both clubs. I also helped organize "The Dog in Art Show" that ran for a few years in Spokane.
Over the years I have developed a profound love and understanding of animals. I feel that you will be confident that my years of experience, education, and natural instincts and compassion of animals enables me to provide quality professional care for animals from all walks of life.
